Getting a hole-in-one was an unforgettable experience. I know skill plays a big role in getting close, but sinking one definitely takes a little luck too. The timing made it even more special—I had just turned 15 the week before, so it felt like the best birthday gift.
I’m from Jasper, Alberta, and was in Edmonton for the McLellan Ross Jr. Tour tournament. On August 8, I was supposed to golf with my cousin, but he cancelled due to the forecast. Luckily, two of my friends were also in Edmonton and invited me to play a round at Jagare Ridge. The day turned out great—just a little rain and breeze, perfect for golf.
My hole-in-one came on the 13th hole, a 142-yard par 3 over water. I used my pitching wedge and a Titleist Pro V1x, my favourite ball. The shot landed about a foot from the cup and rolled right in. As it was in the air, one of my friends said, “That may have a chance.” None of us actually thought it would drop, so when it did, we went crazy. I’m sure everyone on the course could hear us.
I love golf and play as often as I can, but this is a day I’ll never forget. I’ve attached a photo of me at the hole with my Titleist ball and the Titleist hat I bought with my tournament winnings the day before.
Thank you,
Ethan Gibbons
