Playing at Old Sawmill Golf Club in Ridgeville, SC on June 8, 2026, I recorded a hole-in-one on the 7th hole.
This date held profound personal meaning, as it marked what would have been my father’s 95th birthday. I lost my father when I was 17 years old, and it felt incredibly significant to share this day with my son, Johnny—who is named after my father—at that same milestone age of 17.
I struck a 9-iron to cover the 135-yard distance for the first ace. That evening, I celebrated the moment by buying drinks for the house at Husk in downtown Charleston.
To my absolute amazement, I returned to the 7th hole the very next day, June 9, and repeated the feat. Before I even teed off that morning, I delivered 7 bottles of Old Forester bourbon to the staff at Old Sawmill as a gesture of gratitude (7 bottles for the 7th hole). I then stepped up and hit an 8-iron from 150 yards to record a second consecutive hole-in-one.
While I am not a superstitious person, I share these details because I believe they represent an important commitment to the traditions of the game and perhaps a touch of Lucky #7!
Achieving these feats in my father’s memory, while accompanied by my son, made for an experience I will never forget. Golf is wonderful game but made more special with memories we make and share with our friends and loved ones.
