    It is well known that 'The Open' = Birtish Open decided a long time ago to have a fixed rotation/rota:

    St Andrews, Muirfield, Royal St George’s, Royal Liverpool, Royal Troon, Royal Lytham and St Annes, Carnoustie, Royal Portrush, Turnberry

    The last one deserves a threat of its own for other reasons non-related to golf, but I do not want to talk about it :)

    Do you think it is time the USGA adopted a fixed rota of US Open venues?

    Which would be the ideal venues for a US Open?

    I.e.,

    Pinehurst 2014, 2024, XXXX? Oakmont 2016, 2025, XXXX? Shinnecock 2018, 2026, XXXX? Pebble Beach 2019, 2027, XXXX?

    It is already happening.

    The The Open is oldest tournament, and as you stated was determined a long time ago is rotated among their elite courses in the UK. With all the courses available in the US should we just limit it to a few on a rotating basis every ten years. I say open it up to more courses, after all it is the US Open and there are a lot of states with worthy courses with emphasis always on old public courses. With respect.

    That statement omitted one word. "should "not" just limit it to a few"......sorry if there was any confusion in the contradiction.     I believe they are about to go down this path with Pinehurst being the first course to be selected as a rotational host.

    I agree with your list...love when the course is the story on a US Open more so than the field.

    I’d like to see the US Open played on public course every year more then anything, or at least courses that are open to the public before or after the tournament to give the average guy the chance to play the course. I enjoy seeing all courses, but I enjoy playing a course where major tournaments were held.

    A US Open cannot just be held at any nice course...the infrastructure many places is limited. Parking, lodging, etc. need to be planned years in advance and perhaps that is why a rotational schedule may work best.

    I think it would be better if they have 8 or 9 regular courses and then throw in a different course every 10 years or so. I like the 8 listed above.

    I'd like to se the rotation expanded, especially on public venues that the USGA feel could host an open.
