I just received the 2021 Phantom X 5.5. It came with the Pistolero Plus grip. Is it important that I change the grip with a grip comparable to the one it came with or can I go with whatever feels good to me?

I like how the putter head feels going back and forth with the Pistolero Plus grip but the SuperStroke feels better in my hands.

I put a superstroke on my Newport 2. Doesn't matter to me that its not a scotty grip.

I did it with out even using the standard grip on the putter, I know what works for me.

Totally agree. I have multiple putters with non-OEM putter grips like the SuperStroke. Do you know if the SuperStroke grip you placed on your Newport 2 weighed differently from the original one that was on the putter? If so, how did that effect putter feel...if any.

I'm not sure of the weight of either grip, but I added a 50g weight to the tech port and the putter just feels better to me.
  5. I added 25g countercore, and the club head screw replaced by 2x35grams, also feel great:)

I play the 6M with a SuperStroke Grip.
Hope to receive my Phantom X 5.5 soon...which I'll be placing a SuperStroke on.

I put a 1.0 Traxion on my 2021 Phantom X 5.5. Seems to be working better for me than the Pistolero Plus grip did, as that was just too different a feel. I do miss the Matador midsize that was on my 5.5M. Might try one on the X!

I went for it and made the change to the Super Stroke Pistol GT 1.0. I added a 25gm weight in the tech port of the grip so that the overall weight was as close to the 2021 Phantom X 5.5 with the Pistolero Plus grip.
  9. Curious, what did you figure the weights were? I have the same putter and might switch to superstroke.. dont really want to add countercore unless I need it for swing weight.

The Pistolero Plus comes in at 82/82g.
The SS Traxion 1.0 is listed at 71g.

I just got my Newport a couple of months ago, and don't seem to be able to aim it very well! When I go back to the putter i've used for 25 years I feel like if i'm on the green I'm in! I think the stock grip feels big to me ( not a Super stroke fan). Even when I practice with the putter I'm burning edges. My short game is getting me by for now, love the feel of the contact with the ball and the look of the putter, it's just not my new girlfriend(putter)yet! Would changing to the same grip as my old putter make a difference?

That's the first thing I would do...put the old putter grip style on the new putter. If your old putter's grip isn't too worn out, there is a way to pull an installed grip on one putter over to a new putter. If the rubber of the old grip is dry, cracking and brittle, you probably will not have success. 25 years with the same grip on one club is a long time, if that's your situation.
  13. For me the swingweight is very influential on how true my putting stroke is. I have 2 30g weights in my Custom Newport 2 and I have to be careful how heavy the grip is. How heavy do you all like the swingweight to be?
  14. My 2.0 grip is 49g with 25g countercore, and my club head screws 2x35g. Feels good

A few years back, I switched the stock Pistolero on my Newport 2 over to a Scotty Cameron Matador Medium grip, then eventually to a Large version, (which is similar in diameter to a SuperStroke).

I replaced the 10 gram weights with 20 gram weights shortly thereafter, not because I felt it was out of balance, but for a bit more feel. Just a personal preference.

Been playing the Matador Large now for about 4 years and have never thought about changing to something else. The grip is as wide as a Superstroke, but my Newport is still ALL Scotty.

I replaced the Pistolero with a SuperStroke Traxion Tour similar to what JT uses. I slid the stock grip off in case on want to restore the putter to it’s original form. The SuperStroke feels better for my claw grip. The putter is the most personal club in the bag and I would argue that it’s all about feel and CONFIDENCE! While the exact specs are important, they’re less of a concern to me than feel.
