My wife and I will be in New York City from the 5th April as we are traveling to the USA as we were fortunate enough to secure two US Masters tickets for the Wednesday practice round which includes the Par 3 tournament. Whilst in New York I was considering playing golf at Bethpage and was hoping some TT members would know the best way to get on, I am not bothered if I don't play the Black course just was hoping to play a round of golf on US soil. Thanks for any help. I would also consider traveling to be fitted in Massachusets but wasn't sure if this could be done in a day from NYC.

If you can't get a phone reservation, not to worry, just rent a car, drive out to Beth Page in the morning and get your name on their list.  If you're really lucky you might be able to get onto Black and if you're just lucky you might be able to get onto Red.  The others like Green and Blue should be pretty easy to get onto same day.  Either way, you'll be able to play one of their course and won't be wasting your drive out there.

Craig, Sounds like a great trip you've got coming up. I hear the fittings in Massachusetts are 2nd to none; even if they've got an opening for you, it's a 4+ hour drive from NYC, so that'd make for a pretty long day. As for Bethpage, you should definitely come out and play some golf. 90 holes, 35 miles east of the city. I live on Long Island about 10 miles west of the complex and play there quite a bit. Don't know if the Black will even be open yet in early April (the maintenance staff is quite protective of it), but there are great holes on every course, with the Red and front 9 of the Blue the consensus runners-up to the Black. Since the complex is in a state park, there is a reservation system we NY residents can use, but they're very careful to make sure to leave room for walk-ups on at least one course. Don't know if you'll have your sticks with you, but the adjacent pro shop probably has some rentals. Good luck with whatever you plan; if I can help you with anything along the way, email me at guisician@mac.com. Pete
