  1. I bought a set of AP2 710's and I have questions about whether or not they are real.  When I bought them I called Titleist to verify their authenticity and was assured that they were.  However, I compared mine to a set in the PGA superstore in Myrtle Beach and found many minor differences.

    Mine:

-no markings on shaft other than true temper band.

-color difference in tungsten sole is not as defined.

-the "tungsten ni" tag reads "tungstenni"

    -The rubber insert isn't perfect.

-grips feel horribly cheap.  they look this way too.

When I unwrapped them, the grip wrapping didn't list the patents. but was identical otherwise.

I'll get some pictures up here later, but I don't know what to think since the serial number checked out.

The bad guys could make 100 sets with the same serial # as one they copied from a real set of irons so serial # alone is not the best way to tell for sure.  Where did you buy them from?  I look forward to the pictures.

  3. Sorry about the blurry pics but my computer was having a hard time with my good camera so the iPhone is gonna have to do for now.

#1 top edge is too sharp, not round

    #2 AP2 logo is wrong.....the "2" should be white

#3 Face is too flat of grey/ silver

    DG band checks out ok

#4 The common Six/ Nine iron number font is off

#5 Nearly no difference in color from the tungsten sole to the forged steel.

#6 "Tungsten Ni" writing reads "Tungstenni"

#7 small imperfections on the polymer insert near the toe of each club..... furthest left part of the black rubber in the cavity.

These have been reported to Titleist and eBay.  I should have my money back this week for the dang things.  Guess its time to buy them from my pro shop!

    John P,

Compare the hosel lengths for all your irons. The AP2s have variable hosel lengths which get longer going from 3-P. That seems like a difficult detail for even the best counterfeiters to notice.

Read this posting with interest. I have two AP2 3 irons and notice all of your findings on one of the clubs so it may be a fake? Under a 10X mag the tungsten sole has a porous/ pitted looks where the "good" club has a brushed look.

Also: sole is narrower plus a few other minor differences such as the 710 stamping has a 1 and the good club has more of a I, ferrule is shorter, has more offset or bent hosel, has a serial #,if it should have one, where the letters/numbers are stamped in a larger font.

though I'ed add this information to aid others checking AP2's purchased on Ebay
