I have recently picked golf up again after a seven year hiatus. However, I had been having lower back pains for a few months before. I finally went to the doctors around the time I picked up my clubs. I now have found that I have a herniated lower disc. My therapist says that I can chip and putt but I can't go to the range or play rounds. I was wondering if you guys had any advice or knew of any exercises/stretches for lower back or just golf strengthening and fitness in general. If any of you had similar issues with back pain, in golf, I would love to hear how you resolved it, as well.

    Thanks,

    Jason

    Jason,

I haven't had a disc issue, but I did at one point have a back issue that had more to do with my nerves.  I went to a Doctor (MD) that specialized in sports medicine.  I would recommend doing that (assuming you haven't already) simply because you want to make absolutely sure that you are not going to do further damage. It sounds like your therapist is going about things the right way by taking the cautious approach.  Unfortunately, I think that patience is going to be a large part of your recovery.  I certainly wish you the best of luck in getting back on the links as quickly as possible.

The TPI guys are amazing.  Check your local area to see if you have any certified trainers.
