Anyone have any experience or tips in setting one up? I have been doing my research for a couple of months. Wondering what the best launch monitor, screen and hitting mat setup would be. Please let me know if anyone has any pics of your home setup. Thanks!

I hope you get some responses. I too am interested in these same areas. I’ve been looking at the flight scope mevo +. I have a deep garage I’m wanting to put it in 32’. I’m not nuts about putting the metal stickers on the balls, but I like being able to drop the ball anywhere and not in a small spot. I’d like to try one out in person before finding out it’s not what I was expecting.
What’s been your choices so far?

I've checked out the GC Quad, The SkyTrak, Mevo+, and the Flightscope Xi tour. I was really trying to put one together for about $10k, but its looking like its going to be more like $16-$20 all in. I really want to have the clubbed data as well as the ball flight data. I think its a great way to improve and just stay in shape year round.

I pulled the trigger today on a Flightscope Tour Xi. Ill keep you guys updated as I progress with the build.

My only available space is the unheated garage and keeping the cars inside is a priority. A simulator is not an option. A 5 minute up/down net and a mat is as far as it will get. Anyone using the basic devices like Mevo, SC200/300, or Earnest ESB1/ES14 Pro indoors?

I do have space heaters so the temp will be over 40. No parkas and ski gloves required.

I think it all depends on budget and what information you want out of the sim. Some people want club head speeds while other just want to see a ball flight tracer.

I have had my Sim set up for about 5 months now. I cant tell you how great it is to be able to come home and just work on my game at any time. Since installing the sim, my ball striking and control has improved 10 fold. Ive dropped from a perrenial 14 down to a 7. My iron game has never been stronger, and knowing the distances each shot will go has been a game changer. My GIR has never been better, and my putting has gotten better because Im so much closer to the pin each time.

I also would like more info. I'm looking into the mevo+ because I'm poor, but that you can also easily use outdoors and hopefully dial in distances at the range for all my clubs and shot types. If the new stimulus goes through, that's 2k to pay for the mevo+.

I purchased a SIM set-up last year; I bought a Skytrak, projector and screen (built my own PVC frame for the screen). Also bought the TGC package for Skytrak to play courses.
It took a little getting used to swinging in the garage but once I got comfortable it has been great. You can really work on ball flight and swing speeds. The Skytrak system itself also has some great features - bag mapping & drills. I highly recommend it if you have the space. I think all in (Skytrak, software, mat, screen, projector, frame) it came it around $5,000.

i built a sim in my garage last fall and play on it constantly.

i used a CPO foresight gc2 (ideal for sim, it just does ball data but does it incredibly well. you get the best data for the sim without having to pay for club data), linked to TGC2019, then just a simple impact screen setup and projector.

in the end it wasn't CHEAP per se, but i'm playing at least 36 holes a day, every day, so i'd say it was worth every penny.

when you go less expensive on the monitor, you are inviting doubt into what you're seeing. if you can stomach than then there's a lot of money to be saved on that part of the build. but i subscribe to the old adage of buy once cry once, so i ponied up and bought from foresight sports.

i'd be cautious about using any radar based systems indoors. they need to see the ball for a while to produce good data, and they don't get along well in enclosed areas (for obvious reasons).

I used the Mevo+ for quite a while and really wanted to get something more on par with the stats I see when I work with my instructor(he uses Trackman). I looked at the Flightscope's high end monitor and Trackman. My instructor suggested I take a look at GC Quad, he felt it was the best launch monitor to use indoors. So I did a lot of research and for just less than the cost of the indoor/outdoor Trackman, I invested in Foresight Golf's Sim in a Box setup. It is an expensive setup but I get more practice time with it than I ever would driving to a range for practice everyday. I definitely will get my money's worth out of it in the long term.
  12. Hi Norman:

I've been thinking about purchasing a simulator (to stay entertained during Covid), so it'd be awesome if you could speak on how the simulator has been going for you. Is it worth the investment? Any pros and cons in particular?

    Thanks in advance!

Simulators are like a home theater. The basic box for tracking starts at $2000. You can then watch it on an LED screen to the side or install a full screen to hit into with stops in-between. The install space for inside needs to be 12 feet wide and at least 9 feet high to accommodate LH/RH golfers swinging full swings with driver. Noted this can start at $2500 + LED TV and easily escalate to $20K.

So "worth it" is how much disposable income you have and how much you plan to use it. My only ceiling over 8 feet is an unheated garage in the upper Midwest. Need to park the cars outside, set the net up, fire up the propane gas heater for a half hour. So simulation is not a priority - I have 3 golf clubhouses within an hour that I can rent for an hour with buddies for entertainment, as well as gas heated outdoor bays with Top Tracer tracking/simulation (useable down to 15F with no wind). They also supply hot food, beverages, and cleanup. My non-golfing wife appreciates that.

I'm working on consistent swings so between the garage and one 3 sided trailer driving range, I'm trying an Earnest ES1B $500 monitor for basic information. It can send data to an Apple device and can display the flight path there. All of the simulators require a reservation and I can do 30 minutes in the garage almost at will. That is value enough for me. I have about $650 in for my practice lab. Use it 45 times and it is paid for over driving range fees.

We use our sim almost every day - especially this time of year - it will be another few months before we can get back on the course! We had a constrained space in our basement given a bulkhead we had to deal with so we are righties only but that works for us so far. We went with GCQuad with FSX2020, Combo mat from Fiberbuilt and a Par2Pro SQ screen and netting combo as the main components. Projector and Gaming computer rounded out the build (I built the frame to suit the custom space). Added some acoustic and carpeting tiles to darken the screen area and add tot he aesthetics. We are pretty happy with the build - for us, especially with no travel due to COVID - I can honestly say we do not regret the money spent at all.

We have 9 1/2 ft in our unfinished basement. I am planning on doing something done there. Just deciding on the best monitor
