We are planning a golf getaway with 6 golfers, all reasonably close to each other regarding handicaps (+/- a few strokes here and there).

Looking to make it more of a fun guys 3 day outing...2 rounds each day. Have played before where there was too much competition (if you have a bad round or two early - you are depressed for the rest of the week) or not enough competition.

Was thinking of something like am rounds = 2 man teams for points (maybe most team marks for a round or low score or some alternate shot/best ball or 9 hole vs matches). Accumulate points for wins.

pm rounds = 3 vs 3 scrambles to keep it light and drink some beer, more casual...but gain points

Maybe a single individual round on last day for a 'champion' title. Or small awards for different criteria like most amazing shot, longest putt made, chip ins, etc

I'd be fine just playing and having fun...I think the points thing may make some people too 'intense'...but I think most like a bit of competition.

    thoughts?

Maybe one of the rounds you could play a "best ball 3-2-1" as threesomes against threesomes?

It's usually played as a foursome, but a threesome would work just as well (maybe lil tougher, but you say you're relatively in around same handicaps- that's going to even out and be fun).

    In every six holes grouping:
the total scores of three players combined on each holes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6
the total best scores of two players combined on each holes 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 12
the total best score of one player on the remaining six holes 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18

Not much to keep but everyone's scores, and also if handicap is involve.

But the key in the game is to have all three players play their best on the first six holes as everyone's score counts and then it gets more relaxed after that.

    Have a great time!

Sounds like a fun one, No'l. I was pretty certain I knew all the good games by this point but guess not!

It's pretty fun, Allan! ... and I also like that other indi games can go on top of it.
    Thanks

A variation on this format would be to take 3 scores on the par 5’s, 2 scores on the par 4’s and 1 score in the par 3’s. This is a format that is used frequently in the Pro-Ams put on by the local PGA Section here.
