Hi Keith, as I fellow Minnesotan I feel your cold!!  Is it wrong that I'm already counting the days until next Spring?

I wanted to offer a place to find some great workout tips...one of my favorite web sites, Tees2Greens, has a Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) Level 3 trainer, Mindi Boysen, who posts some great workout tips and advice there.  I know the moderators don't want to have links in our posts, so you could just Google Tees2Greens the site should pop up and she is right on the home page.  She has whole archive of posts that include strength training, aerobic training, and tips to specifically help range of motion and swing improvements.   It might not be a whole workout, but you could probably build in several of her exercises into a full workout.

    Hope that helps,

    Cathy

    Great info, Thanks.

Even though we still have 50's here, still hit the gym.  New workouts help keep the body guessing.  And mine lately is trying to guess what else I will eat for the holidays.

Hello All, Joe Hafera here from the Titleist Performance Institute

Off-season training is possibly the fastest way to make a major enhancement to your game. This is the time of year to take a complete game assessment.

Tour professionals look at how their entire game performed over the year. These serious golfers assess, with precision:

    their body

    their equipment

    their mental approach

    their support staff

    and their goals for 2011

We encourage everyone do this assessment before the next season begins. With your ENTIRE team: this team should be a golf professional, a fitness professional, a medical professional and possibly someone who checks your nutrition or mental game outside of your fitness and golf professional.

With this team, schedule a meeting. This could be at your club, at your favorite restaurant or at your home. Bring everything to the meeting: scorecards, shoes, golf bag, and anything you're considering putting into play next year.

Have your team asssess your equipment: check your grooves, your grips, your shoes. See where things appear worn down.

Have your team assess your body: check your stability, your mobility, your balance, your injuries and have them check for any physical limitations that might cause an injury in the next year.

Have your team assess your practice plan, your pre and post-round routines.

Have your team come up with goals. Write them down. Keep them in your golf bag.

What I'm getting at is, a complete game assessment is the first step toward making a complete game improvement. The best approach you can take is an educated approach. You wouldn't want to invest your money blindly in the market, so don't invest your time, money and physical well-being into your golf game without knowing the best strategy to achieve your goals.

In Minnesota, we have many fitness professionals (helps make you a better athlete), golf professionals (helps manage the technical and mental approach to your game) and medical professionals (helps with injury prevention, injury rehabilitation and possible increase in range of motion) to assess your game.

For me I work on alot of core and try and become more flexible. I take a club with me to the gym everyone in a while just to swing and stay loose, people look at me like I have 3 heads but oh well.

I'm hoping snow shoveling helps range of motion (or helps something!) because we just got a foot of it yesterday!  I know I choose where I live, but when we get that much in a short period of time I get a little mopey.

Joe, great post and great information...Thanks for sharing!

Well it's 60deg here in Austin so I just went to the range for some off season work.  Seriously though, I do what a lot of others have mentioned.  Core, flexability, and game improvements.  I really like to swing a weighted club slowly to keep my feel up.  I also do a lot of practice putting indoors.  Anything that can make me better come 2011.

I haven't been out to play a round since the end of October, but am heading down to Scottsdale, AZ to play for a couple days. When the weather got bad I starting going to the gym. I hope the weight training pays off. I just got my new AP2's so I can't wait to try them out. I need to get out to the range up here in Colorado before I head down if the weather isn't bad. Im playing the Palm Course at McCormick Ranch. Does anyone know if that a good course? It looks like there is quite a bit of water. It's supposed to be in the high 60's so I can't wait to get down there. Will I noticed a big difference between the AP2's and my old irons which were the DCI 762's?

Hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas!

    David -

I think you will see a difference in the AP2's.  They tend to put a grin on your face after every shot goes right where you want it.

I can't wait! Just looking at them puts a grin on my face.

Living in Mass I feel the pain.

There's tons of great workouts on MY TPI, and on Mondays on the Golf Channel there's the fitness academy.  I hit the gym more (because I'm not golfing).  While I'm there I focus on my core, flexibility, and I do extra cardio so I don't plump up from all the holiday goodness.

I also work on putting in the house.  Sometimes (when my Fiance isn't looking) I chip in the house as well.

Calling for a 50 degree day next week!!! At worst I will get out and hit some balls but would rather play 18. All will depend on if the snow melts!
