Anyone like to wager a little bit for more than just pride? What's your go-to game to pick up (or give away) a little extra scratch?

I usually just keep it simple and play for $1 a hole, with the winner having to buy the first beer back at the clubhouse. Other times a $5 Nassau is in play, but the same rules apply with the winner buying the first round with the winnings.

  2. nassau and close out are my two favorites....I think the match play format of the close out game is what we played in college to prepare for tournaments very often.

    Cheers!

Please explain the close out game...I'm always looking for a new game to introduce into the mix.

Hate wolf. Play in a senior men's league every M/W/F. We throw in $5. Three goes towards our points game and two towards the four closest to the pins. We have 32 players each day. Top five with the most plus points win and then the four closest to the pins win. Friendly game. No skins, not with these guys.

Straight Nassau and skins. We don't give/get shots, so it's very easy.

WE throw in $5. Play skins and greenies. Play off lowest persons handicap.

I’m more of a casual gambler myself, I like stuff that’s quick and doesn’t take too much thought. Poker is fun because you can bluff and read people, but I also enjoy a simple game like blackjack or even roulette if I just want to chill and watch the action. I’ve tried betting small on golf with friends too, like $1 a hole or a tiny Nassau, and it’s surprisingly fun because it adds a little edge without stressing anyone out. It’s all about keeping it social and not going overboard.

Four or six point scotch. A point for proximity, a point for a birdy, two points for low ball and two points for low total. If your team gets all the points you double the value. You can start playing for dimes and double the value - press - when you are two points down. And you start over on the back nine with double value points.
  11. Nassau, Wolf, 6/6/6 when playing with partners. I like our format in high school years ago. 4 total points for the match, 3 for the Nassau and 1 for 18 hole score.

We do a mix of Stableford, match play (once you're up 2, the initial bet resets and you can claw it back), and baseball.

We play closes to the hole on all par 3 holes for a buck
But if you don’t par the hole no dollar. And a dollar for birdie
On any hole fun and nobody gets hurt

Right now everytime I step on the first tee. It's a gamble, who has shown up, Dr Jekell or Mr Hyde.

Nassau 5 ways - Front (1 way), Back (1 way) , Overall (2 ways) and Junk package 1 way ( 1 point for greenies & sandies and 2 points for birdies). My course has a legitimate 125 yard down hill over water Par 3 designed by Bobby Jones bc he thought the walk from the 18th Green was too long to back to the Clubhouse. All bets are settled on 19. If the losing team bets double or nothing, it has to be 50% best ball and 50% aggregate score. Local rule is that there is no relief on 19th.

PS- Augusta National was formed in our grill room. Jones was good friend with Cliff Roberts who was a Knollwood member. Cliff found the nursery in Augusta that became the golf course. He was Chairman of Augusta from 1934 to his death in 1973. Two Knollwood members played in the first Masters (Mike and Willie Turnessa
