Just 3 more weeks and I'll be doing my first visit to Pinehurst. Playing #2 and #3. I have been meaning to get out there and play for several years now but never got around to it. Its a long trip from San Diego for just an extended weekend but I need to save some vacation days for other stuff. I wish I could have done the TTI there a couple of years ago. I just hope I'm hitting it well enough to enjoy the weekend. I'll post my results (maybe not my scores) when i get back.

Great place to get off the bucket list. #3 is a lot harder than the yardage. Mr. Ross's greens are particularly hard to hold on that course. But makes no difference when #2 is on the list. Have fun!

    Dale,

DEfinitely take the time to play the Cradle. I had the chance to play it earlier this year at a prototype ball event and would highly recommend it. Also if you have time try and play #8 it is a great play.

And if you have an extra day or two, hit up Tobacco Road.. Probably about a 40 min drive..

I highly recommend the Cradle! Enjoy your trip!
  6. Dale,
I play there every year! You will love the course. I would skip 3 and play 8! It is the nicest course of them all as far as beauty. I would also recommend Dormie Club (Crenshaw design). It is about a 15 minute ride from the course and for a course like no other definitely play Tobacco Road (Mike Strantz design). These are my favorites down there! Don't get too frustrated at #2, it's a monster and so much fun on those greens! Enjoy!

Thanks L. Bringing the wife and just doing the extended weekend so two rounds will be all i can get done this time. I'm sure i will be back on an all-guys trip where i can hit some of the other courses in Pinehurst and around the area. Mainly wanted to make sure i got #2 done while physically able. I picked #3 as a recovery course so my frustration of #2 might be tempered with a shorter, slightly easier round to keep me from giving up golf entirely. Hoping the thunderstorms cooperate this weekend as lightning is the most likely culprit to ruin my plans for a memorable trip.

As promised, a few pictures from my weekend at Pinehurst. I had a great time. Wish i could have attended the TTI there back in 2016. I definitely will try to get back, especially to play the redesigned #4 that Gil Hanse is doing. Opens in September.

Got to play Pinehurst #2 in the early 90's. What a place! I understand it's been renovated since then.

Yes Frank, in 2011 Crenshaw and Coore did a great job getting it to look more like the original Donald Ross design, bring in more of the sandy waste areas. Gil Hanse is just completing a similar remodel to #4. It opens in September. It looks amazing. For anyone going after September, #2 and #4 would be the must-play courses.
