  1. Hello all, I am traveling to London this summer. We are going to Liverpool first and while we are there the open will be there so I'm planning on watching that. Just curious where you guys have played or suggest playing. on my list so far with tee times I have Sunningdale old course and royal St George in sandwich. Then headed back to London for a few days. Thanks for the help

    Zach -

I did that trip last summer for the Open in St. Andrews. One thing that quickly became a lifetime memory... if you like history, try to get a round at Swinley Forest near Sunningdale... it's a heathland course but phenomenal history and uniqueness. Loved my day at Swinley!

Celtic Manor in Wales near Bristol has the Roman Road and the 2010 (Ryder Cup 2010) courses. Hamburg Manor N of London is the site of a European Senior event. Hanbury is a Marriott property Soviet perks there in addition to being a nice quiet location. They also rent Titleist clubs (or did 5 years ago). I stayed at another Marriott property near Celtic Manor, but didn’t play that course.

You won’t go far wrong with anything in the Surrey heathlands.

    West Hill
    Woking
    St George’s Hill
Sunningdale (36 holes here, old and new)
    Swinley Forest
The Berkshire (36 holes here, blue and red)
Walton Heath (36 holes here - and hosting Women’s British Open in ‘23)

Towards the north of London, you have Hadley Wood
The Grove (bit soulless, but service is brilliant)

    Southeast of London
    London Club
    Knole Park
The Addington (currently in the middle of a load of course changes)

Please don’t come over and play hotel courses like Celtic Manor, Hanbury Manor etc. they aren’t the best of British!
  5. Hi,

Now that you are playing Sunningdale you have gone for the best already- nice courses in that area are also Swinley Forest, Walton Health, The Grove, Woburn, Foxhills, Wentworth. Not sure of the Liverpool area but these are good ones around London, although very pricey!
  6. If hoylake isn't busy try playing there while at the open

All ofvthe courses on the outskirts of the London area are fantastic places to play

Just remember British courses play very different due to the inclement weather
