This info was taken from our local newspaper (Post and Courier, dtd March 1, 2023).

"According to the International Association of Golf Travel Operators, South Carolina home of more than 350 golf courses, is the only place in the United States to make their short list, as one of the top five golf destinations in the world for 2023. The others included are Cyprus, Dubai, Los Cabos, and Thailand. The winners were selected after more than 500 tour operators from around the world voted for the places that delivered the best experiences last year. Myrtle Beach tourism officials are negotiating to land a PGA tournament under a four-year commitment that is expected to start in May of 2024. Currently the RBC Heritage is held each spring on Hilton Head Island, the CJ Cup near Ridgeland, and the BMW Charity Pro-Am in Greenville."

The coast of SC has a lot of wonderful golf which most people target when they come visit us. There are a number of hidden gems in other parts that do deserve consideration in Aiken, Orangeburg, Florence, and Santee. So when you come visit us. Check them all out. Cheers, CZ =)

  2. For a hidden gem, try to play Musgrove Mill in Clinton. Really tough, but fun course.

Did a little research, because I was curious too.

The annual IAGTO Awards are voted for by IAGTO’s specialist golf tour operator members. For the 2023 Awards, each was asked to vote for what they considered to be the destinations and businesses that delivered a great experience for golf travelers in 2022, with the top five destinations named Golf Destination of the Year winners and 60 golf tourism industry service providers honored with Outstanding Service awards.

Scotland and Ireland had a number of resorts/clubs in the top 60 winners of the Outstanding Service awards.

I live only an hour away from Greenville. Went there today (3/1) as a matter of fact and went to the Golf Galaxy and picked up a TSR2 Hybrid. Playing Muni on Friday, can't wait to try it out.

Are you talking about the Charleston Muni? My home course. Position, position, when firing at the greens. A lot of false fronts and never fire at the flags, the ball takes a lot of funny bounces. Deep bunkers surround the greens. Have fun. Number 19 rated muni by golf.com in the U.S. The greens have been running on the slow side lately. Usually run around 10.5+. Have fun.....Chuck =)
  7. I have a group of guys who graduated together form The Ohio State University and we have planned a golf trip for over 30 years. 90 percent is in Myrtle Beach area. From Calabash to Pawley's, there are a multitude of great courses to play. We have traveled to other parts, but MB is our favorite!

Mountains, beaches, and all that other nice stuff in the middle! I live in the Triangle area of North Carolina and we love to vacation a few hours south to the "other " Carolina. So much variety, so many nice courses and the people are friendly and helpful.

Been going to Hilton Head the last four years on vacation but haven't golfed. Finally taking my clubs this year. Hoping to play a couple days. The courses next to where we stay look awesome.
  10. I live in NC, but vacation in SC. If I never play anywhere except the Carolinas, I’m ok with that.

For our neighbors just might consider doing a one day event sometime soon down here. If enough folks would be interested.

I would be interested if you don't hold it in the middle of Summer.

That's the best time to play. You pretty much have the course to yourself. I may be a glutton for punishment but I usually get a tee time around 3pm. Just make sure that I have at least two gloves, a sweat towel, water and Gatorade.
