What is everyone's opinion on lie adjustments on their wedges? I read that a lot of higher level players flatten out their wedges a degree or 2 in order to improve workability.

    Curious to see everyone's opinion!

I just went through a fitting for the SM 10s. I discussed this issue with the fitter and my pro, who was standing by as I went through the fitting. Many years ago, my irons and my wedges were all 2 degrees up, due to my very flat swing. Over time, my swing has adjusted and is more upright now. We decided to go with 1 degree flat on all three wedges, the reason being that they are rarely used for full swings and the flatter lie helps with the slightly open face I use most often for shots with these clubs. I also ended up with stiff shafts in the 48 and 54, but a regular shaft in the 60 (bent to 59).

Many instructors talk about lowering the hands in bunkers and also about getting hands high and hitting off the toe for chips in grass that tends to grab the club so I guess it makes sense to flatten the lie. I personally have not tried it so my experience is just to play with a heal relief grind that allows me to manipulate the face. I would love to go into the tour truck and the end of a round and ask Aaron to adjust them for me but that's "in my dreams".

Just got fitted two weeks ago and my irons and wedges are coming 2° flat. Since 2000 I was playing 1° up and in

the past five years my misses have been what I always thought as a pull hook and miss left. He explained that

going flat would help with the missing left because taking the lie up is actually closing the face. My irons and

wedges are being delivered tomorrow so I can't say that this is totally true. At the fitting on the simulator it was

working though I was hitting within 10 yards of the line.
  5. I ALWAYS adjust my loft and lie as needed in wedges and irons. keep in mind that lie adjustments impact draw or fades when hitting the ball...it depends on your turf impact with sole. I am 6'-5" so you would guess I would adjust lie angles on my wedges upward and you are correct. However in my regular irons I actually have flat to lower lie angles! Go figure but that is just how I hit 'em.

    Cheers!

I play my irons 1.5* upright.

9 and Vokey 48 (46*) are 65.5*. All my other wedges are 66* lie angle.

Too flat gives a blocked shot.
