We were up bright and early on Tuesday morning and on our way to our first location, we spied this beautiful sign detailing the history of Pittsburgh. The city was named in 1758 by General John Forbes, in honor of British statesman William Pitt. Forbes was a Scotsman and historians believe that the pronunciation of the name was originally intended to sound like “PITS-brə” or “PITS-bə-rə” (similar to Edinburgh, Scotland). Maybe this Scottish connection explains why there’s so much great golf in Western PA.
