Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday!

What a birthday present!
It was a Saturday late in the afternoon. Because this was Memorial Day weekend, the family was all coming over to our home on Monday for a BBQ in celebration of my 67th birthday. So, I decided to spend my birthday evening playing golf. My friend, John Bowman, had just made the turn. I asked if I could join him.
I was playing 10-14 rather poorly, just not feeling it. On #15, a par 3, protected by a bunker in front. John, who is a terrific player, hit a good shot, but it was just a tad short, hitting the front portion of the grassy mound above the sand trap, rolling back into the sand. I hit a high 6 iron landing just on top of the mound. It appeared to roll toward the pin, though we were not able to see it for the mound. John said, "That's looks pretty good. In fact,. that could be in the cup."
John rolled up to the green ahead of me and was walking toward the green when I rolled up. There was no ball on the green. I grabbed my putter anyway and headed for the hole. By this time John was standing by the pin looking into the cup. He glanced up at me as I approached with putter in hand and said, "I don't think you're going to need that!"
What a birthday present!
