Titleist Starts Strong on 2009 PGA Tour

Led by champion and Pro V1 loyalist Geoff Ogilvy, Titleist golf ball players secured six of the top ten positions on the leaderboard at the PGA Tour season-opening Mercedes-Benz Championship. Twenty of the 33 players in the winners-only field relied upon Titleist golf balls, including ten players using the new 2009 Pro V1 or Pro V1x, which will be available in golf shops in February.

Titleist was also the most played brand in every major club equipment category at the Mercedes-Benz Championship. Led by the 909 series of metals, AP irons, Vokey Design wedges, and Scotty Cameron putters, Titleist was first or tied for first in the drivers (T1st - 10 - 30%), fairways & hybrids (1st - 17 - 25%), iron sets (1st - 11 - 33%), wedges (1st - 36 - 49%), and putters (1st - 13 - 39%) categories. In addition to the count wins, Vokey Design wedges (50°, 55°, and Spin Milled 60-T) and a Scotty Cameron prototype putter were trusted by the champion.

Titleist Brand Ambassador Davis Love III tied for second at the Mercedes-Benz Championship with a full bag of Titleist equipment. In addition to playing new 2009 Pro V1x golf balls, Davis put two new 909F3 fairways (13° and 18°) into play for the first time. Davis also had the 909D3 driver (8.5°), Forged 680 irons (3-9), Vokey Design wedges (50°, 55°, and 60-E), and a Scotty Cameron Newport SS putter in play at Kapalua en route to leading the field in eagles (3) and finishing third in greens in regulation (87.5%), fifth in putts per green in regulation (1.698) and sixth in driving distance (287.1).

Titleist Brand Ambassador Zach Johnson also made equipment changes during the off-season to help propel him to a tie for sixth finish at Kapalua. In addition to the 909D2 driver (8.5°) he began using prior to his victory at the 2008 Valero Texas Open, Zach is now also using two 909F2 fairways (13.5° and 18.5°), a 909H hybrid (21°), AP2 irons (4-9), and his trusty Vokey Design wedges (48°, 54°, and Spin Milled 60-V).

Just wondering if Titleist irons are the same quality as Cobra irons? Does anyone know?
