Ok guys.....I need some help.  The only club in my bag that is not a Titleist is my driver.  Im playing the cally 815 Alpha with a Rogue Silver X.  It is long and straight, but dammit its not a Titleist.  I hit the D3 on Demo day in the summer.  My Launch Monitor numbers were ok, not as good as my driver.  I have made a few swing changes and I think its time to make another run at the Titleist drivers.  My biggest complaint about the Alpha driver is there is very little room for forgiveness.  I felt the same way about the D3.  So I am thinking about going to the D2.  Im hoping the little bigger head allows for more forgiveness but wont increase my spin numbers.  Anyone have any thoughts?

To give you an idea of what my numbers are:

    cally

    Club Head Speed   108

    Launch                       14

    Carry                           288

    Spin                             2285

    D3

    Club Head Speed    106

    Launch                       14.8

    Carry                           283

    Spin                             2520

My opinion is to just get fitted but the fitting must be on a range and not in a simulator. You have to like the trajectory and ball flight and looking at numbers in a simulator simply doesn't provide the same perspective. Most golfers simply look for whatever goes the farthest. Unfortunately this thought does nothing for scores. Purchasing a driver that puts in you the fairway, even if it means giving up a few yards, is the most critical factor. If your fitter is good often times you can get both. One critical aspect is to make sure the ball you're hitting during your fitting is the same you use on the course.

In my mind accuracy is more important than distance. I do get wild when I try to push my driver at times and I can recover and make a few difficult pars, but it is so much better to play from the middle of the fairway. I like to see the flight of the ball on the range, but the numbers are equally important, and I try to go to a Titleist demo day when the new metals and hybrids come out. I have a very good fitter who has been at it a long time and I trust him, even from the inside of a building. You have to know what works best for you and gets the results you expect.

A driver/shaft fitting session at an official Tieleist club fitting center is probably your best bet. The folks there will have the expertise and a vast selection of driver heads and shafts to fit you with the best cub for your swing.

Jonathan K is right: Getting fit on a range is key.

I have similar SS but I can't comment on the other specs, I don't know mine. I just got the D4 after hitting BBDBD, R15, G30lstec. I'll be keeping the D4 though the summer at least. Forgiveness of the d2 with lower spin than the d3. Perfect for me. I might have hit some of the other drivers a little farther, but not so much more that I wouldn't rather have the D4. The Titleist is easier to control and to work the ball, which is what will lower my scores more quickly than 5 extra yards.

Just a suggestion.....contact Brian Coe at The Quarry at Crystal Springs and set up a fitting session.  Brian is the Titleist rep for St Louis.  He worked with me during a trial event (not a scheduled fitting) and he took the time to try multiple heads and shafts to see what worked best for me.  Phone number for the course is (314) 514-0154.

Bigmoochi, I agree with everything everyone has said and I to was in the same boat as you, I just got my D3 a week ago and so far all I can say is wow. I will say that once or twice during the last 3 rounds it might not have been as long as the cally or TM that I have been swithching back and forth all summer but I have only missed one fairway that last 3 rounds and that is way more important than an extra 5-7 yards 3 times a round !!!!!! This is the first Titleist driver I have ever owned and I can say I will not be looking to any other brand  from now on. By the way I aslo switched to the 3-wood atfer having my Tour Egde Exotics for 7 years and I can not be happier. Both the driver and 3 wood have exceeded my expectations.

When I got fitted there was very little difference in spin, about 2700 with both the D2 and D3 so I went D2 for the forgivenss and couldn't be happier.  I did try the 430 M1 just to see and it wasn't longer.   I am curious about the D4.  Anyone have similar performance then try the D4?

    Huddersfield,

If you're after a bit more forgiveness then it's got to be a D2, but get fit for it to get the best shaft option

  11. I just cracked my M1 which I loved but I was thinking bout switching to a 915 anyway just because my driver wasn't titleist so now I'm trying to figure out what I will like the M1 was 460 x stiff 70 g Adila Rouge, I'm think about the 915D3 with 70g X Diamana any thoughts
