It's been a while since I've posted a Quick Poll and after sitting down for a chat with our good friend and Titleist Ambassador Michael Breed yesterday, I thought it would be great to hear from all of you about some of your practice habits. So we've got a two-part poll below for you today... and you're going to have to be honest with yourself for the second question. :)

Make sure you answer both polls and drop a reply to share more about your answers.

And remember to be honest here...

  2. I try to practice 3 to 4 days every week. I start out hitting a lot of short pitch shots. Next I spend a decent amount of time hitting chip shots with different wedges. Then I move on to iron shots followed by woods and the driver. I go to the putting green after that and hit more pitch shots to different holes followed by about 30 minutes of putting. Last I try to play 3 or more holes before hitting the gym for about 30 minutes. That is my routine every time I go to the golf course with the exception if I’m playing with friends. I play with friends about once every two or three weeks and then I play 18 holes.

This been a big change in my routine since I retired and moved to a golf community. I still hit range balls 3 or 4 times a week but now have a two separate short game greens, one mainly for chipping and one with a bunker and elevated green for sand and lob practice. We also have a big putting green. I usually spend 2 to 3 hours combined between these short game and putting areas. I do see an improvement in my overall scores and much less stress when I miss the green. And I do miss some greens! :)

I practice all my shots including short game , but as of right now my irons need the most work.

Work on my shorter irons but my real issues occur with my hybrids. Even ordered a five iron for my set. Trying to buy back my old hybrids to get my previous shafts which I loved and they are not long available. Loved my old 818s and just have a bit of an issue with the larger heads. Not the clubs, ME.

Working on getting my irons to launch consistently and have a generally repeatable distance. Too many times, I have the perfect distance for X club and end up short. Short game and putting are pretty dependable. I just can't rely on my approach to get me where I need to be. I have gone back to basics with grip, stance and building a repeatable back swing. Trying to get to the range more often to get the feel to be there every time. First tournament of the year in a week and a half. Fingers crossed.
  7. Most of my time practicing is at the range where I hit some of everything. When I try to dial it in I'm usually focused on mid to low irons. I will practice putting at home and after a range session or before a round, but it's usually a quarter of the range time. I would love to practice my short game if I had access to better facilities in the midwest.

Looks like my votes fell within the majority. For the first question, I wanted to select mid-iron approach and short game shots. I use a shot tracking app during my rounds and I find those two aspects of my game are where I'm leaving strokes on the course. This will be the first spring using the new T350 and I'm looking forward to how well they perform. If they are as good or better than they've been since the fall, watch out.

I’ll admit that the second question had me torn. I practice mostly full wedge shots and always work at getting those scoring clubs closer. I don’t think I’m necessarily going in the wrong direction, but some additional short game practice never hurts anyone.

I have always focused on 150 yards & in. I believe this is where all your strokes are & the more proficient you are in this range, the lower your scores will be.
  11. Practice everything 120 yards and in to be the best golfer you can....according to Bob Vokey. Hmmm....maybe he wants us to buy more wedges! LOL

    Cheers
  12. I practice my short game 4-6 times out of the week, it’s free and I believe it’s the strongest part of my game, just need more work on longer irons

I've been putting in the work with my long irons over the winter, focusing on my 4i and new 2i. 180 - 220 was an area last year that hurt me on long approaches and on long part 3's. I haven't gotten out onto the range yet this year to see if all the work was effective, but it feels pretty good off the mat.

I also put in quite a bit of time with the driver over the winter, gaining distance and hopefully tightening up the dispersion (sim says it's better). I think that this will require some more work to be put in with the mid and short irons, as what would have been a 5 or 6 in last year might now be a 7, 8, or 9. Just gotta make some time to get to the range with the R10 and pin my numbers down!

Short game is the part I will spend 80% of range time on when in reality, I should be spending it on putting. It's probably the easiest part to practice, but the least popular. IMHO

The difficult thing for me, at my local club I'm a member in, is that the Range area doesn't open till it's significantly warmer. The putting green is always open for putts and chipping, but the actual range to work the swing isn't. So, that's probably hindered some of my consistency. But I typically play every day M-F from 330 till dark. So I play the holes with 3 balls and work on different shots under real conditions. I think that's helped, but getting on the range is the surest way to zone things in.

I got in a significant funk last year with my Driver and consistency in GIR's. So spent a lot of time working on this. To that, though, I have seen a significant dip in my putting that's uncommon for me. (typically my strength) So as always what makes this game the best game in the world is that there is always something to work on and you're never perfect.

I spend most of my time with wedges and putting. I found that my 3 hybrid carries almost as far as my driver and stays mostly straight. As a result, the combination of these two things improved my score significantly.

I practice putting on the mat at home basically everyday, but need to get to the chipping green more often (especially with the new SM-10"s) to practice the short game and sand shots.
  18. At the moment, I’ve been working on my tempo. I look forward to relaxing at home after work, hitting balls into a net while listening to methadone with BT earbuds.
  19. At the moment, I have been putting a heap of my time into tempo. Once I return home after a long day of work, I will listen to methadone via BT earbuds while hitting balls into a net.

With my move to Texas, I now have a backyard that I can chip/pitch 15 yards or so. I use both my 54 and 58 hitting a variety of shots to my TT shag bag as the target. Just trying to keep the feel. I like to hit range balls once a week on the weeks that I am not playing and most of those are 7 iron down.

I notice that my game has far less rust on it when I do tee it up.

Short game 30 yards and IN. Since moving from IL to Pinehurst, the short grass is short. Bermuda is not same as Bent.

Taken couple lessons from Short game expert and he has help me with proper technique and turn through and using the bounce. Vokey's are getting workout. I am chipping 200 balls a day and liking the new skill. building confidence.
